Family Photo Sessions: Adventure Photography Package for Calgary, the Rockies & the Country
Some families want family portraits that tell the story of where they are in their life right now. They see the beauty in the everyday. Their children have reminded them that life is an adventure and they know that adventure can be found in the mountains, or the playground, the country or nature. Some families know their kids need action and adventure and that will work a lot better than sitting in front of a camera in an indoor studio.
I love to shoot family portrait photography sessions outside. Glenmore Park, Griffith Woods or St.Patrick’s Island are great locations within Calgary, AB to photograph families but there are many, many options within Calgary for professional photographers to hold a photo shoot. I also enjoy driving to the mountains and the surrounding area for family photography sessions. The crunch of leaves, softly falling snowflakes, a few raindrops – these things make my heart sing!
A client recently asked for graffiti walls and moving traffic to help engage her teenagers. She requested cool social media shots. I’m down with that. I love nature – but I love the challenge of taking your family portrait photography sessions in the place that works for you.
Would you like to have some country family photography portraits with your pony, your dog and your little animal lover? Would you love to hike with your kids and throw rocks in the water? Or maybe you would like to blow bubbles during a picnic in the mountains? The kids are young only for a short time. Take advantage: take photos!
Two-hour family photography sessions (family size of 5 or less) start at $300 (+gst). We may hit several spots, and we’ll have various things going on to engage the shy child, the active child, and teenagers who may have their ideas of what they want! For adventures outside of Calgary, please share your ideas for a quote!
Calgary Mini Sessions: Affordable Family Photography
I also offer photography mini-sessions in Calgary. Mini-sessions are quick 45-minute family photography sessions in Calgary. These are family portraits designed for a small family who is looking for a basic family portrait solution, not an adventure session. The session fee is $150(+gst). We choose one or two locations, and we make that work. I deliver approximately 15 edited photos by an online gallery.
Family Photography: Photography Sessions as Gifts
Families come in all sizes and ages. Many people book family photography as a gift for the “grandparents” in their life. Grandmothers love family photos of their children and their grandchildren. Photos are pieces of history and having three generations in one photo can be quite a treasure. For larger family groups, please ask for a quote.
Booking a Family Photography Session
What do you do if you want to book? You can phone me or email me. I can meet with you, or we can proceed with an electronic contract. I request a 50% deposit to reserve your date. The other 50% is due the day before the Family Photography Session.
For Calgary Mini Sessions, please be advised that full payment is required to reserve the time we have together.
Other Words of Wisdom: Children and Family Photography
If you book, please keep the weather in mind. A warm child is much likelier to smile and be happy for your photo shoot. You can even think of themes for your young children – matching toques, scarves and mittens, crazy cowboy boots, rubber boots and umbrellas, or maybe pyjamas in the park. This is a chance to display your child’s personality and tell the story of who they are. Gone are the days of perfectly pressed dresses, shirts, ties and shiny shoes. It’s time to think outside the box for your fun, family photography session!
We are not all big happy families. There are families that have lived with divorce, separation, death, mental challenges, abuse, and stress. I can tell you from photographing couples that the couple photography sessions bring couples closer together. The time we share together is special and fun, and there is laughter, and sometimes there have been tears – but there are moments when couples feel that it’s okay to be where they are right now. And it shows in the photos. They remember the time they spent together as a fun date! They laugh at their laughter in the photos. Your family is what it is, and it will all be okay. We don’t need to feel bad about a child that doesn’t want to smile – oh, we’ll try our best to find a giggle or two - but it’s okay if that doesn’t happen as well. There will still be some great photos at the end of our time together.
Check out my portfolio and my blog to see many more families as they laugh, love, walk, hug, dance, tickle. I am working towards becoming one of the best Calgary wedding photographers, but I love to do family photography, maternity, newborn, graduation sessions or whatever you have in mind! Contact me and book a session - let me photograph your quirky little family!
